WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture (from Latin, "acus (needle) and 'punctura' (to puncture)) is the insertion of fine needles into specific acupuncture points in order to correct imbalances in the flow of Qi through channels known as meridians. Qi roughly translates as energetic potential and is the basis of acupuncture theory, along with yin and yang. Yin and yang are simply ways to describe polarities in what exists in nature (ie. heat and cold), and treatment focuses on balancing these dynamic principles.
From the western physiological viewpoint, acupuncture has been shown to alter pain pathways and increase the release of pain-relieving and mood-enhancing hormones within the brain*.
Every day, acupuncture is utilised by clients in search of a holistic, non-drug-based therapy that aims at harmonizing the entire system to bring about complete health and wellbeing.
